4% tax hike for
2007 budget
LUCAN BIDDULPH - Council met Thursday afternoon and the first order
of business involved Crest Support Services and a site plan application
to build a mid-term house at their existing facility off Elginfield
Road at the rear of the property. A delegation, including Executive
Director David Ragobar, came out to answer questions.
An issue regarding a turnaround for emergency vehicles to give more
room to turn around was resolved. The Township planner and CBO are now
satisfied with the layout. The agreement was accepted by consensus by
members.
A second delegation made up of OPP Inspector John Stephens and Constable
Doug Graham addressed council next. Stephens reviewed the recent changes
in personal for Middlesex County and provided a summary of occurrences
and their budget.
The topic of a county wide policing contract surfaced and Mayor McLaughlin
noted that the county will be working on this further.
Councillor Hodgins suggested that the OPP publish articles and information
in the local papers summarizing some of the processes and policies of
the OPP.
In Granton news, Councillor Westman noted that he is still working on
the walking path idea with other residents and having the ball diamond
groomed. He stated the clean-up day last Saturday went very well with
approximately 30 people helping out.
Arena Manager Ken Needham reported that he sent tenders out for the
kitchen renovation project and is discussing prices with other sub-trades.
The new zamboni has arrived and England’s Auto Body has measured
it for their advertising. A grand re-opening will be organized once
the machine is painted. Needham reviewed the requirements to obtain
a permanent liquor license for the community centre. Council agreed
to table this to discuss the pros and cons at a later meeting.
Mayor McLaughlin provided a summary of the last Lucan Area Heritage
and Donnelly Museum Advisory Committee where Spriet Associates attended
to discuss design specifications. McLaughlin stated that the committee
had recommended to the Heritage Association they proceed with completing
the detailed design with Spriet Associates and continue working with
them regarding the design and budget. He added that the construction
tender also includes optional pricing for in-floor heating and concrete
form blocks.
Public Works Manager Steve McAuley presented the tender results of dust
suppressant and recommended accepting the tender bid from Den Mar Limited
of
