NORTH MIDDLESEX
Ailsa Craig ~ Nairn

Council passes tax rates, bylaws
NORTH MIDDLESEX - Council met last Monday to make some bylaws and set the tax ratio and tax rates for North Middlesex.
The rescue vehicle is now being retrofitted for the Parkhill Fire Department and should be completed by the end of June. Ann Wilson was commended for her work on the community calendar and thanked for her work on it since she is now retiring from it. Deputy Mayor Ian Brebner had recently attended a source water protection meeting and said a recent public meeting in Parkhill had only five individuals attend. There were some complaints from Huron Perth saying they did not have enough representation. Brebner thinks most of the recommendations that will eventually come from the board will be common sense implementations. There were some complaints about Queen St. in Ailsa Craig which has a dip in the road caused from the sewer work. Mayor Hodgson thought it would be repaired soon by the County. An inspector from the LCBO had visited a recent stag and doe in the area and pointed out some problems were occurring. They are now going to require a staff member from North Middlesex to be present at stag and does to make sure all the rules are followed. It was said extra casual staff may need to be hired to do this job. Costs are covered by the rental of the community centres. Last year a stag and doe was shut down because of problems and it may happen again if problems continue.
In Thedford it was said that they charge $1,800 to rent out for stag and does which included a $1,000 deposit in case of damages.
Some bylaws were reviewed and changes made. The bylaw for purchase of goods and services was changed so that three quotes would not have to be shown to council unless they were between $5,000 and $25,000. Previously it was anything over $8,500-$15,000 needed three quotes, but they had been not bringing the quotes to council first before accepting the quote.
